I'm looking for some suggestions on naming conventions on devices and group structuring.

Currently in pilot status, we are looking at naming labs Lab1, Lab2, etc. with device names like Lab1-[serialnumber] and then putting them in groups by school *see attached picture.

Any thoughts or short sightedness on my part?

Thanks for any feed back anyone can offer.

We find the serial number is not important in the naming convention since you can search on the serial number within Admin. We typically label the cases of mobile devices in labs or carts (sharpie, sticker) numerically (01...30) so that they can easily be found without having to fire up the device. Our naming convention is SCHL-MD-CRT3-01. SCHL=School, MD=MobileDevice CRT3=Cart3 01=first device in cart.

Thanks for the response.

My initial thinking of not putting location specific information into at least our first 15 managed carts was that they could move locations in a year or two and we'd have to rename them all.

That might not be a big deal, but I was afraid it might be.
