Anyone here manage Windows clients? I have the following questions for you, a poll of sorts.
Do you currently use FileWave to deploy patches for 3rd party apps or use some 3rd party patch provider? I'm thinking for things like Java and Flash Player.
If there was a way to automatically generate filesets for 3rd party patches what other apps would you want covered? Please keep in mind that MS Office is already covered by the FileWave OS patch management so you don't have to worry about that one.
Or do you typically keep the apps up to date by enabling their built-in autoupdate function, although this is sometimes pointless as the updaters can't update without the local user having admin privileges?
What is it about 3rd party patch management that's the most important for you? Is it the automatic generation of a fileset when new versions of the your application are released? Or is there something else with regards to 3rd party patch management that's more important to you?
If you're adding them manually as filesets, how much time do you figure you might save if they were generated for you automatically for these common free apps that 3rd party patching is typically available for from vendors like Shavlik and Lumension (now Ivanti)?
I'm thinking about a project to do something like this. NO, THIS DOESN'T MEAN 3RD PARTY PATCH MANAGEMENT IS COMING TO FILEWAVE. It would be a pet side project in my spare time if I could figure out how to do this.
Thanks for your input/feedback.
