Hello,

Current clients in our Filewave do not have the custom string fields like Department, Location, Building etc. configured. I want to modify those fields for all existing and future clients. How can I do that?

Thanks,
Priyank

Hi priyank.kothari,
Client version 11.2.2 still contains variables for the fields you mention. To add data to them you would have to script it.
Please take a look at the following lines that should use in your script:

sudo /usr/local/sbin/FileWave.app/Contents/MacOS/fwcld -custom_write -key building -value "value_here"
sudo /usr/local/sbin/FileWave.app/Contents/MacOS/fwcld -custom_write -key department -value "value_here"
sudo /usr/local/sbin/FileWave.app/Contents/MacOS/fwcld -custom_write -key location -value "value_here"

You could also add more custom inventory data by using the available custom fields, we currently have the following datatypes available:
custom_bool_01 - custom_bool_20
custom_datetime_01 - custom_datetime_20
custom_integer_01 - custom_integer_20
custom_string_01 - custom_string_20

Example:
Add the uptime to inventory:

###############################

#!/bin/bash

myuptime=$( uptime | sed 's/,/ /g' | sed 's/:/ /g' | sed 's/\./ /g' )

sudo /usr/local/sbin/FileWave.app/Contents/MacOS/fwcld -custom_write -key custom_string_03 -value "$myuptime"

###############################

I posted a fileset recently that provides a GUI for you to edit the Department, Location, Building, and Monitor ID fields, at least for Windows clients.

www.filewave.com/index.php?option=com_ku...2&id=1830&Itemid=246

With a little bit of AppleScript you could do something similar for the Mac side using the command line API Mauricio provided, if you're a Mac site. You would just have to read in the existing data from the /var/FileWave/custom.ini file for editing.
