Hey there everyone,

We are going to be setting up soon a backup solution for all our users desktops and laptops. We are looking at setting up Time Machine and have it backup to a network drive. I am wondering about how you set up your profile filesets to accomplish this? I am in the beginning stages here. We haven't purchased the 48TB storage aray yet till we know that this will work.

Hello drubin,
You just need to make sure that the shared drive is mounted on the computers prior profile deployment since this payload will be looking for the drive to send the backups to upon installation. I believe that the computers need to be rebooted after the profile is installed so TimeMachine shows the correct information and exports the backups to the correct location. Some system profiles require a reboot and I am pretty sure this is one of those. Please check this link from Apple's Profile Manager:

Thanks,
Mauricio.

Did you ever get this working? I am trying with a Synology NAS now and it is quite frustrating.

I did not. I ended up using TimeMachineEditor and Time Machine to set everyone manually. I use Time Machine to do the initial setup and TimeMachineEditor to schedule specific times on when to back up so not to impact my network to strong.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I can't get it working and have just started setting it up manually. I am just using it for office machines (school building) so it shouldn't be too bad.
Thanks for reminding me about TimeMachine Editor. What schedule have you found that works best for your network? Still working that out? I don't have a ton of machines backing up to Time Machine so it might not be as big of a deal for me.
Thanks again.
