When building a new image, does Lightening support 'certifying' installed apps like Dropbox so they won't trigger the Mac OS quarantine feature? So users won't see the 'XXX is an application downloaded from the Internet..."

Thanks, and thank you for providing what looks like a great utility to the community!

You will probably need to repackage the application, although Filewave has said that Lightning supports self-contained apps.

In either case, what you need to do is remove some metadata via the Terminal:

xattr -l <path to your app>

you can type in:
xattr -l

(that's a dash and a lower-case letter L)
followed by a space
and then drag-and-drop your app onto the Terminal window to auto-fill the path.

Eg
xattr -l /Applications/Lightning.app/

*prior to launching the app*
will show something akin to the following:

com.apple.quarantine: 0002;502e5b83;Safari;<possible UUID, string of letters and numbers>|com.apple.Safari

So you need to do the following:
xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Lightning.app

and then package it up or add it to your list in Lightning.
Try copying that app with the xattr removed and launching it on the 2nd machine to see this in action for yourself :-)

I had to register to post (fair enough), but it's quite strange that this forum defaults to showing me as "anonymous" as I had no such intent ;-)

Hi David,

There is a checkbox that remove's information from your post. We've changed it now so that when you post it will show your information by default.

Thanks,
-Dave

Ok, thanks. Still not seeing that checkbox (Safari 6.0, Mac OS X 10.7.4) but not a big deal.
