Hi All,

I would like to see a mechanism to automatically "lock" a fileset when editing it, so this fileset can't be "updated" when another admin updates the model whilst I'm editing this fileset.
There is the "Take Control" button in the Admin, but I would like to have this been done automatically when editing a fileset (and why not: even when editing associations).

I imagine this that every admin should "check out" a fileset or an association before being possible to edit it. During editing, this fileset/association is not affected by any model update (I know this isn't as simple as it sounds :) ) or (simpler) "model update" becomes unavailable for all admins.
After editing a fileset/association the admin has to "check in" his/hers modification before being able to make other changes or do a model update.

We have comparable solutions already for editing Active Directory Group Policies, and our editorial software also works like this...

Just consider the possibilites...
I leave it to the specialists to see if this is even possible :)

Good evening,

thanks for the suggestion - I'd have to spend time digging in the old code to figure out how easily this is doable. First guess - having an auto "take control" whenever you modify a Fileset should be possible.
Having the auto lock at the association level may be a bit more complex - if you change a group, do you lock all items in the group ?

The most difficult part is here to find a good compromise between making sure model is not updated before you are ready to go and making sure that you don't have to wait days until everybody in your team is done so you can run model update.

We have a couple of ideas of what would help in this area as well ; not sure if you have the opportunity to meet us at our Alliance Conference (US or EU), but would be a good discussion topic.
