I noticed that on a brand new 10.8.1 image, generated using Lightning + Install OS X Mountain Lion.app, had spotlight disabled by default on /.

After applying the 10.8.1 image to a machine and running mdutil -s /, it showed that spotlight indexing was disabled.

I mounted the 10.8.1 Image and ran mdutil -s /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD\ 1 and it also showed that spotlight indexing was disabled.

It appears that indexing is disabled when the image is created, but then when repair-permissions.sh runs, spotlight indexing is never re-enabled. (credit goes to frogor from ##osx-server on irc.freenode.net for this info)

Can anyone else confirm this behavior?

Nate

I have not seen that.
I'll ask the developers about that one.

I can confirm this issue.

I've created a 10.8.1 image with FileWave. When I restore it to a new system, Spotlight indexing is disabled.

Experienced the same thing here. Just to be certain, I just created a new 10.8.1 image in lightning (with no other packages or account creation).

Imaged it to a machine (I used disk utility to restore)

When I boot the freshly imaged machine and run:
mdutil -s /[/code]
I get:
/:
Indexing disabled

... and the script at Contents/Resources/repair-permissions.sh already turned it off:

#!/bin/bash
/usr/bin/mdutil -i off "$PWD/target"
/usr/sbin/diskutil repairPermissions "$PWD/target"
