FileWave™ Components

FileWave is comprised of four major components:

The FileWave™ Server

Flexible, Robust, Fault Tolerant

The central FileWave Server supports multiple CPU configurations and can be installed on Mac, Windows or Linux operating systems. It is a high-performance TCP/IP file server whose database stores and controls all information about the software distribution/installation, functioning as the central repository or host of the FileWave model and containing all files and applications to be distributed to the end-users' machines. It is managed by the FileWave Administrator.

The FileWave™ Administrator:

Your Command Center Built From the Ground Up

The FileWave Admin is a Cocoa-based application for Mac OS X and Windows that displays the complex relations of the FileWave Server in an intuitive, easy-to-understand user interface. It is employed to build and maintain the model on the FileWave Server's database and offers convenient drag-and-drop functionality, user-friendly graphics and a trio of windows, each of which features an important list – of Clients and Groups, FileSets and Associations, respectively.

The FileWave Admin provides proper enterprise-level control over your environment, with full support of permissions and access privileges. Multi-administrator accounts, auditing capabilities and account restrictions give it true enterprise-class status. It also offers a range of remote control features, including the possibility of controlling or observing remote computer screens via Apple Remote Desktop 3.0 or Timbuktu as well as command line remote control via Secure Shell (SSH).

The FileWave™ Client:

A Seamless, Efficient, Highly Intelligent Agent

The FileWave Client operates as a Unix daemon (on Mac OS and Linux) / system service (on Windows) and is installed onto each end-user's machine. As the instrument of the client pull technology it organizes the download of files from the FileWave Server or the FileWave Booster(s), and enables FileWave's self-healing functionality and built-in fault tolerance.

The FileWave™ Booster

Providing Load Balancing, Speed and Scalability

The FileWave Booster functions as a mirror of the FileWave Server. Like the FileWave Server it runs on Mac OS, Windows and Linux and primarily serves files via TCP/IP. It can be deployed on regional or departmental nodes and permits changes distributed from the FileWave Server (or from another FileWave Booster) to cascade through large networks and geographies without overloading central servers or networks; therefore, a single FileWave Server is able to support tens of thousands of clients dispersed around the world. Checkpoint restart is possible in the case of interruption or disconnection and, additionally, the FileWave Booster has a built-in mechanism to provide redundancy in case of failure.
